Fotografías de la banda malagueña Negroazulado en el estudio del productor británico John Wood. Una semana intensa en la que el grupo ha grabado su primer EP, lleno de guitarras enérgicas, suaves melodías y la inconfundible voz de Sixto Jiménez. La publicación se espera para antes del verano. No sean impacientes.

Desde el pasado 22 de septiembre y hasta el 13 de octubre, el Centro Cultural Provincial (C/ Ollerías 34, Málaga) acoge la exposición Las tres caras de la esfera, un proyecto fotográfico en el que he trabajado junto a Manuel Jiménez Mérida y Francisco Javier López. Se trata de un ejercicio conceptual sencillo en el que cada uno, basado en una ciudad diferente, ha hecho 14 fotografías a partir de 14 palabras elegidas casi al azar. El “experimento” comprueba la repercusión de esta inversión del patrón creativo en el discurso de cada artista. Estáis todos invitados.
From September 22nd to October 13th, the Centro Cultural Provincial (C/ Ollerías 34, Málaga) is hosting the exhibition The three sides of the sphere, a photographic project on which I have worked with Francisco Javier López and Manuel Jiménez Mérida. This is a simple conceptual exercise in which each artist, living in a different city, took 14 photographs based on 14 randomly selected words. The “experiment” shows the impact of this inversion of the creative pattern in each artist’s visual speech. You are all invited.

Fui al Azkena Rock Festival a ver a Clutch, uno de mis grupos de hard rock preferidos. Los conciertos de las demás bandas fueron una broma al lado del espectáculo que dieron estos señores.

Off I went, to the Azkena Rock Festival in Vitoria (Spain) to see one of my favourite hard rock bands: Clutch. The rest of the concerts were a bit of a joke compared to the show these guys put together.

Desde el sábado 14 de mayo y durante 3 semanas se exponen en el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga cuatro de mis fotografías pertenecientes a la serie A certain way out. Han sido premiadas con una mención especial en el certamen de artes visuales MálagaCrea 2011 (gracias, Manu, por unas impresiones impecables). Estáis todos invitados.
For three weeks starting Saturday the 14th of May, four of my photographs from the series A Certain way out are being shown in the Center of Contemporary Art in Málaga. They have been awarded a special mention in the contest of visual arts MálagaCrea 2011 (thanks, Manu, for those spotless prints). You are all invited.

Presentación del nuevo disco del quinteto Gabacho Connection en Bayona. El grupo, bajo la tutela del baterista Vincent Thomas -mi amigo y mentor- hace un jazz ecléctico con resonancias de rock, reggae, etc. Muy francés. El disco es una verdadera joya. En los próximos meses tienen muchas fechas en España y Francia, un espectáculo más que recomendable.

Premiere of the first album by jazz quintet Gabacho Connection in Bayonne. The band, directed by drummer Vincent Thomas -my friend and mentor-, plays a very eclectic jazz with echoes of rock, reggae, etc.Very French indeed. The album is a gem. In the next moths they will be playing many concerts in Spain and France, a very recommendable show.

Desde hoy hasta el 6 de mayo el Espacio Oblicuo del Centro Cultural Provincial de la Diputación de Málaga (C/ Ollerías 34) acogerá la exposición 11th Night Bonfires, una serie de fotografías realizada por Manuel Jiménez Mérida. Las imágenes reflejan los preparativos de las grandes hogueras que arden en los barrios de Belfast cada 11 de julio precediendo a las Orange Order Parades. Fotografía documental clásica en blanco y negro, un verdadero placer.

Exhibition: 11th Night Bonfires - From today until the 6th May the Espacio Oblicuo, in the Centro Cultural Provincial de la Diputación de Málaga (C/ Ollerías 34) will be exhibiting a series of photographs by Manuel Jiménez Mérida entitled 11th Night Bonfires. The images show the preparations for the huge bonfires that burn all over Belfast on the 11th July every year before the Orange Order Parades. Classic documentary photography in black and white, a true pleasure.

El fin de semana pasado fui a ver -y a fotografiar- a Willis Drummond en concierto. Para mí, estos chicos representan el mejor directo de hard rock/punk que se puede ver hoy en día en Euskadi. Creo que son de Iparralde (la parte francesa del País Vasco), aunque no sé exactamente de dónde. Les vi por primera vez hace algo más de un año y, desde entonces, me prometí a mí mismo asistir a sus conciertos cada vez que tocaran aquí. Por sistema. Es difícil ver bandas cercanas que den directos de esta intensidad y calidad. Si os gusta el rock (más bien duro), en serio, no os los perdáis si tenéis la oportunidad.

Last weekend I went to see – and photograph – a concert by Willis Drummond. In my opinion these guys put together the best hard rock/punk show in the Basque Country today. I think they come from somewhere in Iparralde (the French side of the Basque country), not sure where exactly. I first saw them just over a year ago and, ever since then, I promised myself not to miss any of their gigs in town. Not a single one. It is rare to see concerts of this intensity and quality. If you are into rock (rather hard), seriously, do not miss them if you have the chance.
